About Cristi Frye

I am a polymer clay artist, focusing mostly on figurative sculpture. With no formal training in art or sculpting, I am basically just trying to figure things out as I go. This is a new adventure for this long-time stay-at-home mom, and I’m loving every minute of it. I enjoy the challenge of trying new things and continuously learning.

I have a background in Elementary Education. I worked as a kindergarten teacher and then shifted my career path to work for a non-profit organization. But my true calling came when I became a mother. I quit my paying job after my first child was born. I’ve spent the past 19 years raising my children, and continue to do so. They are three very busy kids. (I guess one of them is technically an adult now.) I spend a lot of my time encouraging, cheering, and watching them in a variety of activities - soccer, basketball, acting, volleyball.  I am their biggest fan and supporter. Nothing gives me more joy than watching them shine. My children are my greatest contribution to this world.

Volunteering has been a large part of my life since my kids have been in school.  I have been on the Board of Everything School Related for many years. I’ve only recently learned the power of saying “NO” when people ask for my help.  And I am feeling less and less guilty about it every time I say it.

I also wrangle a menagerie of animals that don’t really seem to understand that I am supposed to be in charge.  We currently have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 goats, 3 pot bellied pigs, and one fish. That fish is going to outlive us all, no matter how many times my kids forget to feed him (her?).

And now, apparently, I sculpt…by accident really. I have no idea how sculpting became a thing for me. I remember making things out of modeling clay as a kid.  Then a few times in my life, I have picked up clay to make things like Christmas ornaments or small figurines for my kids. But until recently, it really hasn’t been a big part of my life. In late 2018, I started making Christmas ornaments with the intention of selling them.  I was making a Santa face that just accidentally turned into an old woman that I now call Florence. And she started it all.

Thank you for visiting my website and joining me on this journey. Creating art has become such a joy in my life and I’m excited to share it with you! Check out the “Sculpture Store”" tab to see what pieces I have for sale or contact me for information about a commission piece.
